About the job

Our mission is to break down the barriers of today to release the potential of tomorrow. Join us today and release yours.

There are two things that we want to share with anyone considering joining us.

Firstly, we’ve got big ambitions for our colleagues and the future of the organisation. These include our vision that inclusion and accessibility drive every conversation we have and every decision we make. We want our workforce to fully represent the communities and customers we serve, because a diverse business is a better business. We value every colleague, their diversity and the contribution that they make. When we say you’re welcome at BT, we really mean it.

Secondly, the one thing the pandemic has taught us is that a lot of current and future colleagues, where and when possible, want to embrace hybrid working. Therefore, we are introducing smart working at BT. Smart working means having the flexibility to choose, as a team, how and where you work depending on your team’s deliverables and needs; when you are at your shared core location to connect with others and when not. It may not be for every role, and, as part of the recruitment process, you’ll have the chance to discuss smart working and how it might work for the job you are applying for.

About This Role

BT are recruiting for a Commercial Operations Manager to join the organisation on a permanent basis, this role offers flexible hybrid working and can be based out of any one of our following offices; London, Bristol, Birmingham or Belfast

The role sits in the Commercial Planning and Performance team, responsible for creating the end-to-end commercial plan for Enterprise, providing a holistic view of plans and trading performance across all the Retail and Wholesale segments. Acting as “air traffic control”, this role has great opportunity to influence commercial performance for Enterprise, by integrating and analysing the impact of individual segment plans on Enterprise commercial performance.

A key part of this role is to own both the definition and ongoing management of governance and controls for Enterprise commercial planning based on Group and Enterprise requirements such as the weekly trading rhythm, forecast planning process, inputs into OR/QBR etc. Another key metric of this role is project managing the end to end process of the internal budgeting (MTP) process for Enterprise. Through effective collaboration and stakeholder management, the role provides the insight to help support the management of trade-offs between potentially conflicting interests and needs – including between Sales, Customer Solutions and Service – to reach the best possible commercial outcome for Enterprise.

You’ll Have The Following Responsibilities

  • Own the definition and management of governance and controls for Enterprise planning based on Group and Enterprise requirements through the weekly trading rhythm, forecast planning process, inputs into OR/QBR etc.
  • Own and define the commercial planning process and ways of working across Enterprise – identify dependencies and create controls to deliver a more predictable commercial plan.
  • Own and deliver the MTP project plan for Enterprise working with all relevant stakeholders to tight deadlines ensuring all parties are aware of progress.
  • Identifying misalignment and inconsistencies in commercial plans across Enterprise units and provide recommendations on how best to resolve for the optimum outcome in Enterprise.
  • Identify and execute improvements to existing MTP process.
  • Manage the gap closure plan for Enterprise Commercial.
  • Succinctly communicate the Enterprise commercial plan at ELT level.
  • Own the delivery of the centralising of common capability and drive standardisation and simplicity into our ways of working e.g. moving from basic Excel-based to more predictive modelling, sharing best practice across teams with overall objective of improving predictability and maximising returns.

You’ll Have The Following Skills & Experience

  • Breadth of understanding of Wholesale and Retail markets, product portfolios, customer bases, and competitors.
  • Proven ability to manage, communicate with and influence multiple senior stakeholders across various parts of the organisation.
  • Effective user of PowerPoint/Excel to tell the story – simplifying complex messages and ability to flex style based on audience.
  • Proven track record of high performance through delivery, development and diversity focused mindset.

  • 25 days annual leave (plus bank holidays)
  • 10% on target bonus
  • Pension scheme
  • Share save scheme
  • 50% off BT and EE mobile pay monthly or SIM only plans
  • Exclusive colleague discounts on our latest and greatest BT broadband packages, including BT Sport and the NOW Entertainment membership, NOW Sport, Cinema and Kids.

We value different perspectives, skills and experiences. Diversity makes sense for us, our customers and our ambitions. We’re creating an inclusive working culture where people from all backgrounds can succeed. That’s why we welcome applications from all parts of the community.
