Cadent is the UK’s largest Gas Distribution Company owning and operating four of the eight UK Gas Distribution Networks across the East of England, London, North West and West Midlands; spanning over 131,000 kilometres of pipes. Cadent transport gas safely and reliably to 11 million homes across their networks and operate the Gas Emergency Helpline for the whole of the UK. Costain is appointed as the Construction Management Organisation to manage the planning and delivery of the annual network investment programme for the East of England Network, which ranges from Sheffield to Outer London and from the M1 to the North Sea Coast.

Job Description

  • Support in the production of the Area annual baseline programme for mains replacement, and client driven works as required. Schedule, update progress and rescheduling as required and ensure data accuracy within the systems.

Key Tasks & Responsibilities

  • To ensure the receipt of approved projects within the area and ensure they are accurately recorded in the appropriate systems
  • Manage project start and end dates in the work management system and update with completion confirmation in a timely manner, or secure and enter valid reasons for project delay
  • To enter scheduled work into the relevant databases to produce agreed programmes
  • Attend weekly planning meetings and other meetings as required
  • Update actual progress on a weekly basis, at PON level within Aphex or Microsoft XL
  • Assist with the creation of daily / weekly team / project whereabouts
  • Monitor NRSWA notices / permits and escalate accordingly to ensure noticing compliance and avoid S74 over runs
  • Liaise with local Highways/Streetworks Teams to plan/Permit Work
  • To provide accurate timely reports as and when required.
  • Attend/support Local HA Co ordination meetings
  • Carry out any other duties appropriate for this post.
  • Support the leadership team with all aspects of the Planning/services
  • Knowledge, Experience and Technical Know How


  • Excellent organisation and time management skills
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Experience working to tight deadlines and attention to detail
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office; Word/Excel
  • Good Organisational and administrative skills
  • Good communication skills
  • Meticulous approach to ensuring accuracy of data entry
  • Experience in Utility Contracting or Local Authority is desirable
  • Knowledge of Primavera version 6 or Aphex.


  • Good working knowledge of relevant Costain way processes and procedures
  • Basic knowledge of working in regulatory environments on utilities contracts
  • Ability to travel to other depots in the East of England region
  • Experience in programme planning desirable.
