About the job

We are looking to appoint a Validation Officer Technical Education within the Defence School of Electronic and Mechanical Engineering (DSEME) operating from MOD Lyneham, Wiltshire.

To be successful, candidates will have excellent IT skills to extensively use MS Office and specialist applications which includes Training Administration and Financial Management Information System (TAFMIS) software.

You will have strong communication skills to effectively liaise with key Stakeholders.

Job Description

The post holder will work in the Exam Centre and Internal Validation Department (ECIV), a mixed team consisting of MOD Civil Servants, Contracted Staff, and Military personnel, and will be responsible to the Head of ECIV. The key tasks of the Department are as follows:

  • Internal Validation. Management of the Internal Validation process to determine the effectiveness and efficiency of the Training Delivery conducted by DSEME Lyneham.
  • Accreditation. As an Approved Accreditation Centre, operate within the Awarding Body’s qualification frameworks, to deliver regulated qualifications, in accordance with set standards and Quality Assurance requirements.
  • Examination Management. Manage and direct effective verification and moderation assessment control, complying with the relevant course documentation in accordance with JSP822.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.

Job Description

  • Assessment Strategy and Specifications: being accountable to the DSEME Head of Validation & Accreditation, manage and direct effective assessment control, complying with the relevant Assessment Strategy, JSP 822 Part 4 , compliant for all elements of test & assessment activity assigned to the job holder’s responsibility.
  • Assessment Processes & Procedures: being accountable to the DSEME Head of Validation & Accreditation, to set appropriate and effective test and assessment methods to provide valid, reliable and fair evaluation of the transfer of learning against course learning objectives. Ensure test & assessment materials, examination question banks, marking guides and associated documentation are in good order to continually maintain the validity of assessment activity against training objectives. Carry out internal verification of assessment decisions.
  • Internal Quality Assurance (IQA): Conduct internal quality assurance (IQA) activity to monitor the quality of assessment judgements, including invigilation, to ensure consistent and reliable judgements are made across the School. Highlight any trends and/or development needs of assessors, and ensure all Accrediting Organisations procedures, and policies are adhered to and maintained to ensure DSEME meets compliance requirements. Attendance at Awarding Orgs External Quality Assurance (EQA) reviews for area of Validation Officer responsibility.
  • Internal Validation: Manage the data collection and evaluate data from end of phase training and end of course discussions. Analyse and investigate feedback to highlight and escalate any issues as required.

Monitor InVal feedback questionnaire completion rates for area(s) of responsibility, promoting and encouraging benefits of feedback to continually improve DSEME processes and practices.

Responsibilities

Additional responsibilities as follows:

  • Manages the preparation and submission of training course content and supporting material for External Award Body validation and approval to enable the award of BSc, FD.
  • Manages the Schools production of course work and results required for the award board as detailed in the collaborative partner work instruction

Qualifications

Jobholder to have attained a Level 6 (or above) qualification in an engineering, science or maths subject.
