The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora) is an international agreement between states. Its aim is to ensure that international trade in specimens of wild animals and plants does not threaten their survival(www.cites.org).
Following the Nineteenth Meeting of the Conference of Parties (COP 19) held in Panama from 14th to 25th November, the CITES Secretariat is seeking to recruit Spanish translators for the translation of the outcome documents of the 19th meeting of the Conference of the Parties (CoP19) in support of the Secretariat work programme of work for 2020-2022.
Duties And Responsibilities
The individual contractors will translate, among other documents, COP 19 outcome documents from the original English version into Spanish.
Completion of secondary education is required. Bachelors degree in translation is desirable.
A minimum of 2 years working experience in Spanish to English translation services, preferably with biodiversity related Conventions or similar organizations is required.
Proven knowledge of translation terminology and reference research techniques used in the UN Secretariat, CITES Secretariat or similar Organizations is desirable.
Excellent linguistic and writing skills, ability to produce high quality documents as well as ability to adhere to tight deadlines.
English, French and Spanish are the languages of the CITES Secretariat. For this positions, fluency in English and Spanish is required. Knowledge of any other UN language is desirable.
