West Yorkshire Combined Authority is seeking to appoint a Business Support Officer to work within the Contracts and Commissioning team in Policing and Crime Team to support the department to make a real difference to the lives of people across communities in West Yorkshire.
It is an exciting time to be joining the Combined Authority, following the announcement that a £1.8bn devolution deal has been secured for West Yorkshire. Devolution will enable us to drive up living standards for local communities while tackling the climate emergency and help deliver our commitment to become a net zero carbon city region by 2038.
One of the key functions of the Mayor is to provide stronger and more transparent accountability of the police, helping to make the police answerable to the communities they serve. The Mayor will ensure community needs are met as effectively as possible and foster local relationships through building confidence. They work in partnership across a range of agencies at local and national levels to ensure there is a unified approach to preventing and reducing crime.
In order to achieve the Mayor’s priorities set out in Police and Crime Plan, we commission a number of different providers to help with the delivery of services which will benefit the communities of West Yorkshire, reduce crime, and help victims to cope and recover from the harm they have suffered.
This is a varied role which will suit individuals with experience across administration and business support or experience in a grants or commissioning environment.
Working in the Commissioning and Contracts team you will play a crucial part in supporting all contract and grant functions to assist in the delivery of the Commissioning Strategy.
Successful applicants to roles which have been identified for vetting will be subject to all relevant vetting checks at the appropriate level and any job offer will be conditional on successful vetting. All applicants must meet the necessary vetting requirements but should be aware that it is not always possible to carry these out on persons who have not been resident within the UK for the last three years. In these instances, applicants may be refused, where it is not possible to vet them to the appropriate standard.

You will have the following key skills, attributes and experience but not be limited to:
- Experience of working in an office environment
- Ability to accurately record and transcribe notes/minutes of meetings
- Word processing experience and the ability to operate MS Office software packages
- Good literacy, numeracy and attention to detail
- Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills
- Willingness and ability to manage a varied workload and work within deadlines
- Willingness and ability to work on own initiative and to contribute fully to a team
- Willingness and ability to occasionally work outside of normal office hours
- Willingness and ability to work in other areas of West Yorkshire as required

Whilst agile working is an option for most staff, there is an expectation that employees are able to attend the office in central Leeds as and when required.

Please note that whilst it is our policy to recruit at SP1 for all appointments, which is the salary stated above, each role includes career salary progression, with incremental increases applicable in most cases, on an annual basis.
